Happy Halloween!!!

The week of Halloween was very busy for us but we really enjoyed all the festivities. Here are some of the things we did last week
Maycie and our neighbor Eva wore their Halloween costumes to dance on Tuesday. Maycie was a little worried when she got to dance and she was the only one with make-up on her face. After a few minutes of convincing her that she was the cutest witch alive and she looked so scary with the spiders on her face, she agreed to participate with the make-up on her face. On Tuesday, it was our turn to have Brilynn's playgroup at our house. While the girls were in the basement playing, I got dressed up in my witch costume and gave them a little scare. I invited them to come to my cottage and make "witches brew."

We added bats blood, eyeball juice, frog legs, and spider guts to our brew. Then with a magic spell (and a little dry ice) we made our potion bubble and smoke. The girls were amazed and so excited to drink the witch potion.
We also ate batcakes (pumpkin chocolate chip cookies).

On Wednesday morning my friend Stacie did a Halloween party for joy school. Once again Maycie was a little upset that she was the only one with make-up on her face. I asked her if she wanted me to wash it off and after thinking for a long hard few minutes she chose to leave the make-up on.
At the party they played musical chairs, made bracelets, read halloween books, drank witches brew, decorated cookies, and made spider crackers.Maycie not only made 2 spider crackers but was so proud of her cracker octopus that she made as well.

Thanks Stacie for having such a fun Halloween party for Joy School

On Wednesday afternoon Maycie does a playgroup with some of the girls in her primary class (thanks again Kristen for inviting her to join your Joy School play group). Once again we did the Witches brew (I was to exhausted to dress up again though) we also decorated cookies and made witch puppets.

On Thursday we had the school carnival. Maycie was finally excited that there were lots of other kids with their faces painted. Brilynn has talked about going to her school carnival for weeks. The girls played games and then went to the magic show. John took all four girls home while I stayed and volunteered for the remainder of the carnival. One more party to check off our list!!!
On Halloween I took Maycie and we went to and did Brilynn's school Halloween party. Maycie loved being at school with Brilynn and Brilynn loved having her sister at school with her. While I helped clean up the party Maycie went to recess with Brilynn. Brilynn is such a good big sister and loves to have Maycie and I come to school and eat lunch with her. At the party we did four different stations including bingo, cookie decorating, a game of "make a mummy", a craft, and once again, witches brew. I was glad I was able to help with the Halloween party.
Halloween night we all got dressed up AGAIN and even John decided to join the festivities and get dressed up as well. He dressed up as the Hispanic guy off of Nacho Libre. John's sister Tiffany came up to join us for the weekend. We first took the kids to the mall to trick or treat before going around the neighborhood. The twins were so good and patient. They didn't even mind having their "cat" hats on their heads.

After trick or treating we got together with our neighbors the Smith's and Butler's. It has become a tradition to get together with them on Halloween and eat soup after trick-or-treating. This year we sent the kids downstairs to watch a movie and play so that we could enjoy some adult time. The kids were really tired and were so quite and just sat and watched the Alvin and the Chipmunks Halloween. When we went downstairs to check on them, Maycie and Ethan had fallen asleep. It looked a little risque but we all had a good laugh.

Saturday morning Brilynn and Maycie finally got to look through their candy. They were surprised with how much candy they had collected.

I was actually really sad today when it was time to take down all the Halloween decorations. Even though it was a very busy week, we had such a good time celebrating this holiday as a family. We already look forward to next Halloween and the girls have already started to ask, "When is it going to be Halloween again?"
